Purpose of the position
Under the direction of the Editorial Production Manager, creates effective and engaging multi-platform communications content and undertakes roles that contribute to the promotion of departmental and cross-departmental communications activities to fulfil the delivery of MSF Japan’s strategic objectives.

Objectives

業務内容

Purpose of the position
Under the direction of the Public Engagement Manager and the supervision of senior officers and an officer in the Public Engagement Team, he or she undertakes activities that support and develop Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Japan’s public engagement activities.

Objectives
To increase MSF Japan’s reach, awareness, and engagement in Japanese society through face-to-face and online activities, including, but not limited to, school programs and public engagement activities.

Main Responsibilities
・Takes a lead in the planning, coordination, and organization of MSF Japan’s approach to school under the guidance of Public Engagement Manager and Senior Community Engagement Officer.
 - Arranges and conducts the following education program targeted for 5th and 6th graders. Request a person with MSF field experience to serve as an instructor and coordinate the schedule with the school. Work with volunteers to run classes. His/her role includes facilitating as an MC.
  - Promotes digital educational materials for school classes throughout Japan.
・Supports internal communications for Japanese field workers to engage in communications activities, including taking a lead role in producing bi-monthly e-mail magazines for field workers.
・Updates Japanese and English presentation materials explaining MSF based on MSF’s activity reports published annually in English.
・Conducts pre-departure briefing and post-return debriefing for Japanese field workers in rotation with other staff.
・Pre-departure briefing: Explain communication guidelines.
・Post-return briefing: Interview field workers about their activities in the field, compile and share memos, and explore possibilities for use in communication activities.
・While the above will be the primary duties during the first year, as the officer becomes accustomed to the work, he/she is expected to develop a wide range of skills while providing support for events, lectures, and volunteers management.
・Supports Public Engagement Manager, External Events Senior Officer, Community Engagement Senior Officer, and Officer in charge of the educational sector when required, in execution and organization of activities pertaining to their main areas of responsibility.
・Works closely with others in the Communications department to create synergy and consistency in Communications’ activities.
・When required, contributes to external activities of other MSF Japan departments, through advice and active participation in planning.

Purpose of the position
Under the direction of the General Director, the Director of Communications leads the
Communications department to define and implement communication strategies, policies and activities that raise and deepen awareness of MSF and its field activities among Japanese society.
The position holder ensures that the department's objectives and activities and team members are also able to support the recruitment, advocacy and fundraising objectives of MSF Japan.

Requirements of the position
The Director of Communications' core objective will be to ensure the delivery of the MSF Japan annual plans aligned to the current and future strategic plan.
・ Increase MSF's awareness and engagement in Japan.
・ Develop a communication approach and activities that are supportive of MSF Japan fundraising and field HR objectives while ensuring coherent messaging and branding.
・ All MSF Japan communications reflect and are aligned to MSF principles, unique identity and temoignage and advocacy goals are at heart of initiatives.

Main Responsibilities
General
As a member of the MSF Japan Leadership Team, the Director of Communications will:
・ Represent MSF Japan as an active section supporting and shaping movement-wide support services related initiatives
・ Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of MSF Japan, including participate in developing and carrying out organization wide goals and objectives, formulating policies, and in decision making with an organization wide impact
・ Directly own the mitigation and management of some key risks for the organization
・ Exemplify by his/her actions and conduct, the spirit of the principles and the mission of MSF
・ Represent MSF externally to further its objectives as and when required
・ Be accountable for delivering relevant strategic objectives on time and on budget

Main Departmental Activities:
The Director of Communications will:
・Be accountable for the design, delivery and evaluation of a comprehensive public engagement approach, including the development of strategies, objectives and activities that are undertaken by the department's editorial production and external relations personnel.
・Monitor field operations communications and ensuring tailoring of MSF information/messages for the maximum impact on target audience, whilst remaining as accurate as possible and respecting the dignity of those affected by humanitarian crisis.
・Ensure Communications department supports fundraising, FHR, HR and operations support departments, and ways of working are constructive and effective.
・Provide support communication strategies and activities for field missions that are under the management of the MSF Japan based Tokyo desk.
・Be accountable for media outreach activities that aim to position MSF as the preferred and the most trusted source of humanitarian-related information in Japan and recognized as a professional medical humanitarian organization.
・Leads ad-hoc planning to reactive news that impacts the public perception of MSF and any humanitarian crises to which MSF is responding.
・Develop departmental budget. Implement, control and review approved departmental budget, in accordance with MSF's policies and procedures. Responsibilities include quarterly budget review and revision, signing and administering departmental contracts, reviewing and signing off on others' purchase orders, expense reports, and timesheets.

Q 語学力はどの程度必要ですか。

原則として、ビジネスレベル(会議で意見を言える、英語で簡単なレポートを書ける程度)の英語力が必要です。

Q 医療・人道援助にまつわる専門性は必要ですか。

募集職種によりますが、入職の段階では必ずしも求められません。しかし、入職後ぜひ興味を持って勉強し、人道援助への理解を深めてください。国境なき医師団では、海外現場から帰国したスタッフによる報告会や、さまざまなレクチャー、外部向け講演会などを催しています。

Q 入職後の研修について教えてください。

オリエンテーション(座学)とオン・ザ・ジョブ・トレーニングを組み合わせた研修が1カ月程度行なわれます。その他、自身のスキルを高めるため、外部研修などに参加できる「自己啓発援助制度」もあります。
