Logistician
The general logistician ensures the smooth running of MSF‘s projects, by overseeing all activities and safety measures for anything that is neither medical nor administrative. There are also logistician specialists who are focused on vehicle maintenance, construction, water and sanitation, electricity and medical equipment maintenance. Logistician specialists are usually not stationed on a single project, but rather visit and support each project on a regular basis.
Management and training of locally employed personnel is also an important part of the work and it requires good communication skills. After gaining field experience, the logistician may be able work as a coordinator from a country capital with the coordination team. Assignment duration is minimum 6 months.

General logistician
- General logisticians ensure the smooth running of MSF's programs, by guaranteeing the continuity of the activities for anything that is neither medical nor administrative.
- Their responsibilities are various and wide-ranging: rehabilitation of hospitals, supervising locally hired staff, organizing transport, cold chain management, maintenance of vehicles and communication systems, local or international supply.
- Thanks to their creativity and inventiveness, general logisticians find solutions to issues in the field, where many unexpected situations can arise. General logisticians are reactive and agile to address the needs.
- General logisticians can pursue a professional path within MSF, through the offer of various training courses and of progressively high-responsibility roles in the field: Logistics Coordinator, Project Coordinator, Head of Mission.
Activities
- Organisation of the project‘s infrastructure: small-scale construction and refurbishment works, basic water, hygiene and sanitation activities
- Supervising and training logistics teams and locally employed and/or international personnel: watchpersons, drivers, hospital logisticians, external hygienists, technicians, etc.
- Management of the supply chain required by the project: stock management, local and international procurement, monitoring and warehousing deliveries of supplies and equipment, procurement
- Management of the equipment required by the project: procurement, installation, maintenance and supervision of equipment (IT, radio communications, vehicles, generators, etc.),
- Implementation of safety management procedures, in collaboration with the project coordinator and the coordination in the capital, providing logistical support to medical teams
- Working with medical teams and project coordinators to define operational strategies and logistical objectives of a project

Experience

- Two years of professional experience

Logistician supply manager
The logistician supply manager is responsible for the program's logistics supply chain in its entirety: analysing prices, quality control, placing orders with local and international suppliers, monitoring deliveries of supplies and equipment, managing relations with freight forwarders and customs clearance procedures, stock management, organising procurement for the project and tracking consumption.

Log water and sanitation manager
The water, hygiene and sanitation (WATSAN) manager is responsible for ensuring the supply of good quality water to health facilities and/or people deprived of water because of a conflict or natural disaster, etc. Liaising with the medical team, the WATSAN manager is responsible for the following.
- Hospital hygiene
- Setting up vector disease control
- Building showers and latrines, etc.
- The infrastructure required to dispose of sewage and clinical waste

Electrician
The electrician carries out the necessary assessments of electrical installations in MSF's programs (compounds, warehouses, hospitals, health centres, accommodation, etc.)
- Duties include drawing up documentations to ensure full and definitive compliance of the installations (diagrams, lists of supplies) in a project, supervising and coordinating any works that are carried out and installing equipment. The electrician improves use of equipment, helps to make users more responsible and manages the technical departments in charge of electrical installations and equipment.

Motorised fleet
The person in charge of the motorised fleet manages all equipment (vehicles, generators, etc.) of a field assignment.
Activities
- Ensuring procedures are in place and that equipment is used correctly.
- Being responsible for security and resources to be adapted to needs.
- Supervising maintenance, ordering spare parts, and management of stocks.
- Training and supervision of locally hired staff, provides training and support for general logistics specialists.
- Management of purchases, installations, the maintenance and follow-up of mechanical equipment of a project such as vehicles, generators, etc.
- Support for medical teams by participating in defining operational orientations and logistical objectives of a project in collaboration with medical teams and project coordinators.

Architect / Construction logistician
The architect and the construction logistician are responsible for refurbishing and building health facilities and any other constructions MSF may need for its programs, such as accommodation, offices, pharmacies and warehouses, etc.
The architect defines and formulates projects in compliance with operational objectives of a project which requires consideration of medical and technical constraints in order to draw up a preliminary and then a detailed project proposal. The architect is authorised to sign off on plans.
The architect and the construction logistician
- Draft specifications for tenders, follows up on offers, oversees and signs off on completion of construction projects
- Recruit, train and supervise work persons and oversee and sign off on completion of construction projects
- Draw up plans and file requests for building permits to relevant authorities
- Are also responsible for tracking financial and budgetary aspects of works.

- Both posts require substantial prior experience while knowledge of medical facilities is a plus

Biomedical technician
The biomedical technician is responsible for maintaining biomedical equipment used in MSF's medical facilities. This includes verifying the installation and start-up of medical equipment, maintaining, monitoring and repairing biomedical equipment, supervising, training and supporting users, updating maintenance records and technical documentation and ensuring computerised maintenance management software is effective.
