Department Operation Support (volunteer)
Description of major activities One MSF hospital is connected to several water tank to support daily activities. Structure are not earthquake proof. Therefore in case of earthquake we want to have these tank to empty quickly into a gutter in order to avoid flushing of water in the hospital. We want to study a solution to do this. One idea from our colleagues in the field is to have an early earthquake detection device connected to water tanks that could open quickly a valve in case of earthquake. We want to assess this solution and propose alternatives.

Some activities to be performed:
  •  Analyse the feasibility of valve-early detection system;
  •  In case the solution is feasible identify and select the suppliers of water valves and early detection device;
  •  Set up and test the device in Japan;
  •  Critically analyse the efficiency and safety of this option and draft a report;
  •  Brainstorm on potential alternative solution if required;
